5 tips for giving instructions.

As teachers, we must bear in mind that in any teaching process, a fundamental part of success is based on the instructions of the activities we teach. Having a plan with attractive activities will not help us if we do not know how to adequately convey to the students of what they have to do. So, it seemed like a good idea to share some tips to work better on this skill:

1. Be precise and clear when speaking: Always give simple instructions. Everything that has to be said must be conveyed most concisely possible. In this way, we ensure that the message reaches the students without problems.

2. Be as brief as possible: Repeating and unnecessarily lengthening the message only makes understanding difficult. Spending more minutes than necessary does not imply improving the instructions since, in most cases, the effect is the opposite.

3. Give examples of what is going to be done: For many students, it is easier to understand what is being asked of them when they can see it in a clear example.

4. Check if the students understood: We must make sure that the whole class knows what they have to do, but to check it, avoid direct questions such as "did you understand?" Better ask them to repeat what they have to do.

5. Transmit security and confidence: If you are sure of what you are going to say, it is easier to generate confidence in the students to achieve the desired objectives.

It is significant to reflect on the importance of receiving good instructions so that nobody feels lost or make someone believe that they are not good because they do not understand. Always keep in mind how you feel when you do not receive good instructions.
